Here are my compositions from 2025–2026, documenting the beginning of my journey as a composer.

Oboe & Double Bass Duet Set

This collection consists of three short duets for oboe and double bass, composed in Sibelius.

Duet No.1

Duet1 explores melodic motion inspired by the I–IV–V blues progression. The piece experiments with notes and rhythmic swing and contrasting textures between the oboe and double bass. As one of my earliest compositions, it also reflects my exploration of the expressive possibilities—and limitations—of composing and realizing music in Sibelius.

Duet No.2

Duet No. 2 continues to develop the same musical materials introduced in Duet No. 1, while exploring the sonic ideas of stretching, distortion, submerging, and floating. Among the three duets, this is my favorite, as I feel these sound transformations create a balanced and harmonious musical atmosphere.

Duet No.3

Duet No. 3 was inspired by my morning bird recordings along a trail near my home. The melodic material incorporates imitations of a rooster, several unidentified birds, and a family of wild turkeys. For the turkey calls, my tutor suggested using flutter tonguing, which creates a distinctive and expressive sound effect that I found particularly interesting.

Light Through the Shadow (Film Score for Picnic Souvenir)

Light Through the Shadow is an original film score composed for Picnic Souvenir, a collaborative project with students from the De Anza College Film Department.

The score follows the protagonist's emotional journey—from an overwhelming outburst of sadness, through a period of quiet reflection and rest, and ultimately toward acceptance and moving forward.

Musically, I chose woodwinds and piano to carry the primary melodic material, creating an intimate and expressive sound world. Strings gradually reinforce the emotional arc, adding warmth, depth, and intensity as the character transitions from grief to hope. Through evolving orchestration and harmonic development, the music aims to mirror the film's psychological and emotional transformation while supporting the narrative with subtlety and sensitivity.

Playground Trio

This trio was composed while I was attending my child's playdate. As I watched children running, riding bicycles, and laughing across the playground, while mothers chatted nearby and fathers played basketball, I was inspired by the joyful atmosphere and everyday rhythms of family life.

The music reflects this lively scene through a continuously dancing piano rhythm, a soaring flute melody in the high register, and a warm, lyrical cello line that bridges the two instruments, creating a sense of connection, movement, and gentle harmony.
